Chiara Minotti

Dr. Chiara Minotti is a paediatrician and MD-PhD candidate at the University Children’s Hospital of Basel (UKBB). Her research focuses on infection prevention and control in neonatal units, neonatal sepsis and invasive infections in preterm and low-birth-weight infants. She is actively involved in developing innovative strategies to prevent and treat infections in neonatal intensive care units, contributing to the Horizon 2020-funded NeoIPC project, led by DKF research group leader Prof. Dr. Julia Bielicki and the NeoDeco study.

Chiara Minotti emphasises the importance of including children and newborns in clinical research, as they are still too often excluded. Research involving children is essential to generate robust evidence, inform guidelines and improve outcomes in paediatric care. She notes that, if parents have concerns, these can be addressed through transparent communication, shared decision-making and a collaborative approach between clinicians, parents and children.

Looking ahead, Chiara Minotti aims to align her research closely with clinical priorities, contribute to large-scale collaborative projects and expand partnerships to advance neonatal care and infectious disease research.

“Studies involving children are essential to ensure that they benefit from new interventions specifically designed to meet their needs.”
